Herbed Cheese Biscuits

 

2 c. all-purpose flour

3 tsp. baking powder

2 tsp. dried dill weed

1 tsp. salt

1/3 c. solid vegetable shortening

1/2 c. finely shredded sharp cheddar or Swiss cheese

3/4 c. milk

 

Combine flour, baking powder, dill weed, and salt in a large bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Stir in cheese. Add milk and stir with fork until dry ingredients are just moistened.

 

Place dough on a lightly floured surface and knead lightly. Roll to 3/4 inch thick. Cut with floured biscuit cutter and place on a greased baking sheet.

 

Bake at 425 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
