Baked Apple French Toast 6 slices homemade white bread or French bread, thick sliced 2 eggs 1 1/2 c. milk 2 tsp. vanilla 2 large tart apples, peeled, cored, cut into thin slices 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 1/2 tbs. butter Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a 9x13x2-inch baking dish. Arrange bread in bottom of the dish. In a medium bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Pour over the bread slices. Arrange the apple slices on top of bread. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the apple slices. Cut butter into small chunks and dot over all. Bake for 35 minutes or until apples are soft and custard is set. Serve with a variety of syrups, cream, or other toppings. 6 servings
