Brethren's Cheese Bread
Orange Nut Bread
Overnight Coffee Cake

Brethren's Cheese Bread

2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tbs. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. butter, cut into 4 parts
1 c. shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 tbs. grated onion
1 1/2 tsp. dried dill week
3/4 c. milk
1 egg, slightly beaten

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.
2. 
Sift flour with baking powder, sugar, and salt into a large bowl. With a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheese, onion, and dill weed. Mix well.
3. Combine milk and egg in a small bowl. Add to the flour mixture and stir quickly just to moisten it.
4. Transfer batter to the prepared pan. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
5. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Turn loaf onto a wire rack to cool completely or serve warm.



Orange Nut Bread

4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 3/4 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
2 tbs. grated orange peel
2 eggs
1 c. milk
1 c. orange juice
1/4 c. butter, melted

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Stir in nuts and orange peel.
3. In a small bowl, beat the 
eggs, milk, orange juice, and butter. Stir mixture into the dry ingredients just until moistened. Pour into 2 greased 8x4x2-inch loaf pans.
4. Bake
for 50 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
5. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Turn loaf onto a wire rack to cool completely.


Overnight Coffee Cake
Makes 12
to 15 servings

3/4 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
8 oz. sour cream
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
3 tbs. milk

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a 
large bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt in a separate bowl and add to the creamed mixture. Stir in sour cream. Pour batter into a greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
3. 
In a small  bowl, combine brown sugar, nuts, and cinnamon. Sprinkle over batter. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
4. Remove 
from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cook on a wire rack for 10 minutes
5.
 Combine
confectioners' sugar and milk. Drizzle over warm coffee cake.
